Both have had a massive influence on the shape of Hip Hop in the UK and both have had a long musical relationship that has lasted more than a decade.
Rodney P began his mic skills more than 20 years ago as original member of the highly influential London Posse, who released Gansta Chronicles and which Hip Hop Connection described in 2007 as The Most Important UK Hip Hop Album of all time. The Lp featured classics such as How's Life in London?, Jump Around and Money Mad which still sound fresh today!
In 2001 Skitz released his groundbreaking 2001 LP Countryman with the infectious Dedication, starring Rodney, winning Best Single at the 2000 UK Hip Hop Awards, the following year Countryman then wins LP of the year!
In 2002 BBC 1xtra is born and Skitz and Rodney P are asked to present the flagship Hip Hop show, interviewing the likes of 50 Cent, Chuck D, Talib Kweli, Redman and Method Man. They also co-produce the first track to be played on the station which features Beverley Night and Blak Twang.
Fast forward to 2009 and Skitz is about to drop his second producer led album Sticksman and again Rodney features strongly on tracks such as the bass bubbler Left and the awesome Struggla that features Hip Hop superstar Kardinal Offishal. The LP also features the talented vocals of the likes of Dynamite MC, L Dot Man, Skibbadee, Buggsy, Masta Ace and Wordsworth!
Meanwhile Rodney P is working on his second solo LP, on his own Riddim Killa records, and recording and touring with the Dubpistols where he features on tracks such as the Stranglers cover of Peaches featuring Specials frontman Terry Hall.
So come down to Scratch @ The Big Chill House and witness for yourself these 2 Hip Hop legends from the UK doing what they do best, a live DJ set from Skitz hosted by Rodney P. You may even be lucky enough to catch a sneak, live preview of a couple of tracks from the forthcoming Sticksman LP too.
It's gonna be solid ! !
