SCRATCH PRESENT : SPECIAL GUEST DJ MR THING & RICHY PITCH LP LAUNCH ON BBE RECORDS WITH M3NSA!

Scratch are proud to present Richy's Pitch's official LP launch on BBE Records with M3NSA, plus very special guest DJ Mr Thing !

Scratch's very own Richy Pitch will be launching his amazing new LP 'Ye Fre Mi Richy Pitch' on the excellent BBE Records. The LP featuring a host of talented musicians and vocalists was recorded during a 2 year stay in Ghana. Joining Richy behind the decks will be M3NSA, a Scratch host regular and a big... vocal contributor on Richy's LP.

Excitement levels always rise in the Scratch camp when our next special guest Mr Thing is announced.

Needing no introduction the ex Scratch Pervert was Scratch’s first guest back in back in 96. Since then he’s graced the Scratch line up countless times and never fails to bring the ruckus with party rocking selections coupled with turntable ability that is second to none.

It’s been a while since we had him performing solo so we thought it was about time we invited back one of our favorite DJ’s to Scratch... All hail Mr Thing!!!

Not forgetting Scratch resident DJ's Matt Smooth, Lyley and Tomski, plus the usual displays of dancelfoor genius from the B-Boys and B-girls who represent at Scratch every month.

SATURDAY 25TH JULY - DJ MK (Kiss FM) and host M3NSA

SATURDAY 25TH JULY - DJ MK (Kiss FM) and host M3NSA

Scratch is proud to announce DJ MK and host MC, M3NSA as our next special guests at Scratch!

DJ MK is one of the UKs leading Hip Hop deejays. He has been a favourite on the club scene for the last 10 years, displaying his turntable dexterity up and down the UK and throughout Europe, Australia and the United States. What sets MK apart from many of his peers is his ability to rock a crowd wherever he plays, be it Londons Ministry Of Sound, an Underground UK Hip Hop Jam, Pacha in Ibiza or an Arctic Monkeys after-party.

MK was the first UK DJ to release regular, well-packaged Hip Hop mixtapes at a time when no other DJ was doing so. These mix tapes earned him his props and a slot on the Capital rap show with Tim Westwood from 93 to 95. His mixtapes are now sold all over the world.

The man has done it all from providing cuts on various tracks for the likes of Roots Manuva, Dido, Jehst, Skitz and Lewis Parker to promoting Londons premier Hip Hop jams (The Hop and Live & Direct). MK held down one of the most popular shows on London based Hip Hop station Itch FM for four years before being headhunted by Kiss 100. He know host his own show on 1xtra alongside Extended Player, Shortie Blitz.

MK continues to tour the world as Roots Manuva’s DJ and is also a member of the powerhouse DJ crew Extended Players, alongside Shortee Blitz, Mr Thing and Harry Love.

He was behind the homegrown Hip Hop anthem Its All Live on Stonegroove Recordings, has released two volumes of his London Underground mix CDs to great acclaim and recently he compiled & mixed Bangers & Mash Vol. 2 (out now on Boombox). MK’s mixtape buzz led him to ink a deal with Antidote / Sanctuary Records for his first official album Above Board. It boasts 100% exclusive tracks from the cream of the UK Hip Hop scene. The first single lifted from the album is the DJ MK & Fallacy club banger My Show, which also finds MK weighing in with his debut production credit.

Considered by many as one of the hardest working men in the fusion of true school hip-hop and West-African home grown hiplife, M3NSA a multi-talented indie-soul singer, emcee and producer is poised to be one London's finest performers. His music and lyrics possess refreshingly effortless witticism and soulful melodies that are both entertaining and provocative.

M3NSA is currently working on his 'Weather Report' EP due for release soon, he has also collaborated with Scratch's very own Richy Pitch on his forthcoming Ghanaian project 'Ye Fre Mi Richy Pitch' due out in October on BBE.

DJ'ING AT SCRATCH. WHY IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK!

On February 28th 2009, after having 2 brilliant years in Ghana, I played my first set at Scratch for almost a year and a half and to be honest I wasn't sure what to expect!

But one of the comforting things was that I had the DJ crew (Matt, Lyley and Tomski) there enjoying themselves and playing some great tunes and there was also a packed room at the Big Chill House with a friendly crowd full of weekend music lovers having a few beers and enjoying the good Hip Hop music.

I must have played for a couple of hours but I must admit, I absolutely loved every minute of it!

One of the reasons it worked was because I had my old MC partner by my side. Tukka is so good with the crowd, he is a great 'hype man' he makes the audience feel good and he makes me feel very relaxed when I DJ, it really showed.

Another reason why it was a good night was I had some of my great music buddies there, who I first met all the way over in Accra, Ghana. M3NSA and Kwesi turned up with friends and kindly took some pics that you can see below. We also had saw some of the old school Herts posse down there too... big up Sam, Junior, Debs and Amy !

I managed to play a nice variety of tunes from Funk, to Hip Hop Classics, to contemporary Hip Hop to even a bit of Old School Drum and Bass, which went down a storm!

So all in all February's edition of Scratch @ The Big Chill House definitely made me feel that it was good to be back !!!!
